The Ilorin Creative and Cultural Foundation is building a new generation of writers, poets, artists, storytellers, historians and cultural leaders committed to preserving the rich heritage of Ilorin Emirate while shaping its creative future.
Institutions and organizations helping us preserve, celebrate and advance Ilorin's creative heritage.
Who We AreThe Ilorin Creative and Cultural Foundation is a creative and cultural foundation working across Ilorin, Kwara State and Africa, to train creatives, supporting artists, recording oral histories, and building the programs that let a new generation take up the indigenous creative traditions with confidence.
We work with schools, historians, artisans and independent creatives, treating culture not as an artifact to display but as a practice worth investing in — one manuscript, one mentee, one festival at a time.
Stories, traditions, places, languages, memories and creative practices that deserve to be preserved — from the Ajami manuscripts of Ilorin's scholars to the praise poetry of its griots, from its palace architecture to its pottery traditions.
Young writers, poets, artists, storytellers, performers, researchers and creatives who need spaces to learn, create and connect — because a movement is only as strong as the hands it's passed to next.
A future where Ilorin's culture is not simply remembered, but continuously interpreted, documented and expressed through new forms of creativity — every manuscript, every mentee, every festival at a time.
A culture survives when its stories continue to be told.
To preserve the cultural heritage of the Ilorin people, and equip its creatives, artists, historians and storytellers with the training, platforms and community they need to carry that heritage forward — deliberately, and on their own terms.
Lecturer, Department of English and Literary Studies, Kwara State University (KWASU)
A literary scholar, poet and theatre practitioner whose work sits where African literature, oral tradition and technology meet — and who founded this Foundation to put those tools in the hands of Ilorin's next generation.
His scholarship explores African-centred knowledge systems, digital literary studies and the role of literature and performance in critical literacy and social transformation — advancing the arts as tools for cultural preservation, youth empowerment and civic engagement.
Each area feeds the others — a poet becomes a teacher, a research finding becomes a stage play, a community elder's story becomes an archive entry.
Writing workshops, literary development and spaces for emerging writers rooted in Ilorin's voice.
Poetry development, spoken word, readings and performance in English, Yoruba and Arabic traditions.
Preserving oral histories, folklore, memories and community stories from Ilorin's people.
Historical drama, performance, stagecraft and community theatre carrying Emirate history onto contemporary sets.
Documenting and celebrating places, traditions, people and cultural memory across the Emirate.
Workshops, masterclasses, school programs and mentorship for the next generation.
Recording stories, histories, archives and cultural knowledge before they are lost.
Connecting creatives, institutions, communities and cultural organizations across Ilorin.
Our flagship gathering brings Kwara Creatives: writers, historians, artisans and performers into one shared week — part exhibition, part classroom, part street festival. It's built to run every year, and to grow with the community around it.
An open call inviting Ilorin's writers, artists and researchers to submit work responding to the year's heritage theme.
A guided procession through Ilorin's historic quarters, pairing local historians with residents and visitors.
Readings, staged theatre, craft demonstrations and panel conversations held across partner venues.
A closing exhibition of selected work, with recognition for standout contributions across every discipline.
Our standing programs create regular opportunities for writers, poets, artists, storytellers, researchers, performers and other creatives in Ilorin to learn, collaborate and share their work.
A recurring space for writers to develop ideas, share work, receive feedback and grow alongside other writers.
A space for poets, spoken-word artists and performers to share their voices with an audience.
Community storytelling sessions focused on memories, folklore, oral histories and stories from Ilorin and its people.
Practical sessions led by experienced creatives across writing, theatre, storytelling, visual arts, media and other creative disciplines.
Guided explorations of Ilorin's historic places, architecture, stories and cultural landmarks.
